So far, Animoji had been my go-to option for a fun-filled conversation. However, it’s no longer remains my first choice. Memoji has taken the center stage in my roaster of messaging tools. Ever since I upgraded to iOS 12, I’ve been using Memoji and Animoji on my iPhone X to spice up not just the conversation but also the FaceTime calls.

The latest iOS version has added some cool Animojis like Ghost, Tiger, T-Rex, Koala. To get started with Memoji, you first have to make a customized avatar. With several customization options on offer, you have plenty of freedom for experimentation. On top of all, you can create multiple characters that can fit into the mood of different conversations. Let’s get started!

How to Create Memoji on iPhone X, Xs Max, Xs, or iPhone XR

Step #1. Open Messages app on your iPhone X.

Step #2. Next, open a conversation and select the Animoji icon below the iMessage text field.

Step #3. Next up, swipe right from left and tap on the “+” button.

Step #4. Up next, customize your look to your best liking. You have numerous options like skin tones, hairstyles, head shape, and eyes. So, don’t fail to experiment until you have got the right look.

Step #5. In the end, tap on Done at the top right corner to confirm.

After you have perfectly customized your look, you can use it in iMessage to chat with your friends in a fun way. Thanks to the advanced TrueDepth camera, it maps your expressions spotlessly. iOS 12 is equipped with new facial recognition technology that enables it to mimic your winks and tongue sticking.

How to Record Memoji or Animoji Videos in iMessage

Step #1. Launch Messages app → open the conversation and then select the Animoji icon.

Step #2. Now, choose the Memoji you have just created. Or pick out your favorite animated emoji.

Step #3. Next, tap on the record buttonand record the message and then hit the arrow button to send the message.

You can also use your character as a sticker. Save it for the times when you want to use fun faces to express different emotions.

Step #1. Open Messages app → head over to a conversation and tap on Animoji icon.

Step #2. Now, tap on your character. Now, you should see the readymade image of your avatar, tap on the arrow button to send it.

The newest iOS version lets you use Memoji in Messages camera as well. You can use it to design your character and even capture its pic.

How to Use Memoji in Messages Camera

Step #1. Open Messages app → go to a conversation → tap on the camera icon.

Step #3. Next, tap on Animoji icon.

Step #4. Next up, select the Memoji that you want to use.

The moment you choose your avatar, it will show up on the camera screen. Then, tap on the “X” to get rid of Animoji bar.

Step #5. Up next, your character will continue to appear on the screen. Now, you can design it using stickers or other funny stuff you have.

Step #6. When you are happy with the result, capture the image by tapping on the shutter button. Now, you can use Markup or other editing tools to fine-tune your shot. In the end, you can send it to your friend like any other image.

If you ever want to make some changes to your character or even delete the one you no longer want to use, you can do so with ease.

How to Edit, Duplicate, or Delete Memoji in iMessage

Step #1. Launch Messages app → Conversation → Animoji icon.

Step #3. Next up, you need to tap on three dots at the bottom left corner.

Step #4. Next up, you have three options:
  • Edit
  • Duplicate
  • Remove
They are self-explanatory. Choose the preferred option as per your need. In the make sure to tap on Done to confirm the changes.

Step #1. Open FaceTime app on your iPhone and start a call.

Step #2. Now, you need to tap onrectangular inlay at the bottom left corner of the screen and select Animoji icon.

Step #3. Next up, select the Memoji you want to use.

Tip: There is also an option to add stickers to the emoji face overlay. To do so, find out the stickers you are willing to use. Then, you need to drag and drop it on the face overlay.
